Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Happy Chinese New Year!
We just got back at the apartment. It seemed all of Singapore descended on Chinatown today. Whew! Foreigners and locals gathered for the celebrations and many shopped for memorabilia and food at the night market nearby. I bought a fridge accessory for keepsake.

Good thing the MRT is open ’til 2am today [...]

BPI system down for days

Through the years I’ve had a very high regard for BPI since they have impeccable customer service, comprehensive online banking facilities, and numerous ATMs all over the country. I’ve seldom had problems with them locally.
However what happened these past few days is a different story. Yesterday was payday at the company (and probably the rest [...]

My First Taste of Filipino Food in Singapore

It’s just been a little more than a week since I arrived in Singapore and I’m already craving for Filipino food! I browsed the PinoySG forum and got some recommendations like:
     - 7,107 Flavors located at Marina Square, Unit #02-02
     - Jolly-V located at Lau Pa Sat in Raffles
     - Panyeros also [...]

Off to work… in Singapore!

I’ll be working for a new company in Singapore and will be traveling there next week.  The country is the smallest nation in Southeast Asia, and is just a little bigger than Metro Manila. But size does not matter for this island-nation, because (according to Wikipedia) it is the 5th wealthiest country in the world [...]

To Paris We Go!

While in France, Mike and I have been planning to tour Paris one weekend and decided to go this Saturday.
At the top of my Must See Places are:

the iconic Eiffel Tower, once the world’s tallest structure and the symbol for Paris worldwide;
Arc de Triomphe, an arch commisioned by Napoleon Bonaparte to commemorate his victories at [...]

Just arrived in France

After about 18 hours of air travel, including a stop-over in Amsterdam, I’ve finally arrived in France. It’s quite late already but there was still a shuttle service from the Charles de Gaulle airport to my hotel.
I’m staying at The Campanile which is just 15 mins from the airport. Good thing they have free wifi, though signal [...]

Learning French

Before leaving for a particular destination, I always make it a point to study its culture and language. Thus, I’ve been preoccupied with studying French these past few days so I could at least strike a basic conversation and understand written text.

Especially helpful was Learn French with Michel Thomas, an audiobook collection where the author [...]

Leaving for France

Early this year I have been involved in the project planning for a ramp-up project in NXP. The semiconductor IC to be introduced for testing in Calamba will be a photo-flash LED driver for cameras and cameraphones. Tasked to transfer product and technology knowhow from the development site to the manufacturing site, I will [...]

Home in Cebu for Holy Week

I went home for a (much needed) vacation during holy week. My flight to Cebu was on Wednesday night (April 4) and I expected heavy traffic so I left the office earlier.. only to be dismayed upon finding out that my flight would be delayed. It was already 10:35pm when I finally arrived in Mactan [...]

Laguna area snapshot

I might be needing this in the future so for reference purposes, I am posting an aerial view of Laguna. Several placemarks are SM Sta. Rosa, Robinson Sta. Rosa, Enchanted Kingdom, Calamba Crossing, Aviles Restaurant and NXP Semiconductors.

Distances (as measured from Google Earth):
From Aviles, Calamba to Alabang Town Center - 30.6 kilometers
From Aviles, Calamba to [...]
